この言葉は、アフリカの未来にそっと寄り添いたいというUzuriの原点となりました。
Uzuriは、アフリカらしいエッセンスとクワイエットな美意識を掛け合わせることを軸に、つくり手と丁寧に協働しています。独自のネットワークを活かし、品質が高く、これから大きく花開く可能性を持つデザイナーやブランド、職人たちと共に商品をキュレーション、ときにプロデュースも行い、その価値を育てています。

人はしばしば「イタリアの鞄」「スイスの時計」と語るように、産地や出自に物語を重ねます。
人類発祥の地とも言われるアフリカ大陸にもまた、まだ語り尽くされていない魅力があります。
悠久の歴史、多彩な文化、雄大な自然。 この大地が育んできたものは、計り知れない深さを持っています。アフリカのブランドが生み出す品々には、職人の技術だけでなく、土地の文化、家族の歴史、そこに生きる人々の物語が息づいているのです。
私たちは、その背景まで含めて「ものづくり」と向き合い、アフリカから世界に誇れるブランドが育っていく未来を思い描いています。

Uzuriという言葉は、スワヒリ語で「美しさ」と「善さ」。
アフリカのプロダクトには、「つくる」ことを超えた力があります。

Uzuri was founded by Naru Yamagishi, whose formative years spent in Kenya shaped his sense of beauty, culture and connection. The time he lived there is woven quietly into the foundation of Uzuri.

One day in a rural village, a mother spoke to him with quiet resolve:

“Our children are not in school, but their future is waiting. Help us change what stands in the way.”

Her words stayed with him, becoming the seed of Uzuri’s desire to stand alongside Africa’s future with sincerity and respect. Guided by a philosophy that blends African essence with a quiet, understated aesthetic, Uzuri works closely with creators across the continent. Through a unique network, we collaborate with designers, brands and artisans who carry exceptional quality and the potential to flourish globally.

We curate their work—and occasionally co-produce—helping their value grow organically and authentically. Just as people speak of “Italian leather bags” or “Swiss watches,” origins hold stories. Africa, often called the cradle of humankind, holds beauty that has yet to be fully told. Its ancient history, diverse cultures and vast natural landscapes form a depth that cannot be measured. Products crafted by African brands carry more than craftsmanship. They hold the memory of the land, the history of families, and the stories of those who shape them. We embrace these backgrounds as part of the making itself, envisioning a future where African brands stand proudly on the global stage.

“Uzuri,” meaning “beauty” and “goodness” in Swahili, reflects what we hope to share with the world. African products hold a power that transcends creation—they generate livelihoods, preserve skills for the next generation and open new opportunities. We imagine a world where the breeze of Africa blends naturally into everyday life. Where a single piece, picked up almost by chance, quietly supports someone’s tomorrow far away,
